Went to look into why the exhaust on the crown vic has gotten exponentially louder in the past couple days (the ball flange at the manifold/cat joint is inexplicably floppy-loose, fix TBD) and was greeted by some pinch weld hanging down. A quick poke and out it came.
Yes that’s a 15-inch ruler and 16 inches of pinch weld.
In case anyone was curious “just how rusty is his crown vic which he declares to have terminal rot?” - this is how rusty it is. The rockers don’t exist anymore and the pinch weld is falling off. The door sills are rusting through and I can get a finger through all four wheel wells.
Frame’s solid, though!
This is why I’m buying another car this spring.

I see no issues there

This is normal for a ford. If i go above 70mph in rain it rains in the car from under the windshield. But somehow my entire battery tray area is still intact, despite being the most rust-prone place on the Escort’s, oh well....

I think this is normal for just about any car which has spent 16 years being driven in the salt!

Without a good undercoating and being taken care of before it goes this bad, yeah it will.

A decade of police service to start a car’s life does it no favors
